Reference One of the reasons for writing this book is to do justice to the old native culture; that is to present beliefs and views of these native people as related by themselves. Non-native aythors or religious writers tend to discriminate native culture: that is they say shamanism, known as metawin in Swampy cree is a witchcraft or divination and that is evil. But I present this native shamanism as a psychic power. The difference between witchcraft and psychic poweris how you use this power which is inherent to humans. If you abuse this power then it it becomes witchcraft.Such abuse was committed by by an evil shaman to harass or destroy people. A good shaman used his powers to help or to defend his people. .

Reference PrefaceThis report is a summary of the main priorities, concerns and objectives of Grand Council Treaty # 9, which represents the native people of the Treaty # 9 area in Northern Ontario. In this summary we present the issues and aspirations of our people today. Background information is included where appropriate. We discuss the problems facing our communities, the same hardships that our people have spoken of so many times. We express our hopes, our fears and our social economic aspirations of the future. Not all of the important issues of our people can be covered in this report. Many things must be left out, because there is so much to talk about when we speak of the spiritual, cultural, social and economic betterment of our present and future generations. The matters reflected in this report are only some of the issues which come up again and again; such things as poor housing, ineffective education system, poor transportation systems, inadequate health care, the fear of losing what remains of our traditional way of life through the greed of large private companies and insensitive government machinery: these are only some of our concerns. Many of these problems and fears have not been resolved, and our people will continue to suffer as a consequence..
