They call me chief: Warriors on ice is a celebration of the history of first nations, Metis and inuit men who have played or coached hockey at the highest levels. This 280-page book includes a 48-minute DVD originally shown on Global TV and produced by Don Marks sport. Players such as Fred Sasakamoose, George Armstong, Jim Neilson, Reggie Leach, Stan jonathan, Bryan Trottier, Ted Nolan,Gino Odjick, Thheoren Fleury, John Cabot, and Jordan Tootoo ar profiled in the book. The book covers the early history of the sport, the racism in sport, stereotyping in the sports media as well as the contributions made by these individuals tot he sport and the growth of hockey in First Nations communities at the grassroots level.

They Call Me Chief is Don Marks first book. A multi-award-winning film-maker, Don has written and directed over 200 documentaries, including the highly acclaimed They Call Me Chief and Indian Time specials. Don was a sportscaster on CKND-TV in Winnipeg for 11 years and is a regular contributor to the Winnipeg Free Press and Editor of Grassroots News-Manitoba's largest Aboriginal newspaper. Don also wrote and directed the successful stage play in Deo.
